===== Aromatherapy ===== Bergamot grows on the sun-drenched coast of Italy and elsewhere on the Mediterranean. It is a small fruit that yields a citrusy fragrance which Jeanne Rose described as being “yummy” -and I heartily agree. Bergamot oil is soothing to frazzled nerves and stressed bodies. It is also uplifting to that part of us which isn’t physical-to our soul, if you wish to call it that. Inhaling the aroma, even without visualization, relieves depression and the everyday tensions that are so much a part of our lives. At night, inhale the odor to produce a restful, relaxing sleep. True bergamot oil is a long-time ingredient in cosmetic perfumery and is often confused with bergamot mint (see next entry). Bergamot oil should not be placed on the skin due to its capability of increasing the skin’s ability to tan (photosensitivity), which can lead to bums.
