When placed on the roof, rice guards against all misfortunes. Brahmins carried rice as an amulet against evil, and a small jar of rice placed near the entrance of the house also guards it. Throwing rice into the air can cause rain. Rice is also added to money spells, and is thrown after wedded couples to increase their fertility.
