This deck liberally uses Pamela Colman-Smith's interpretations as its foundation, but the surrealist style is a big departure from the traditional [[tarot:reviews:rws]] deck. The imagery is very woman-oriented: many male characters have been replaced with women, aside from the knight and king of each suit, as well as cards depicting couples (Two of Cups and The Lovers). This deck makes no attempt to conform to modern notions of "diversity" and "inclusion" - every person depicted is clearly White, with European and American cultural elements. Many of the illustrations add Daliesque surrealist elements, such as extra appendages and distortions of physical features, especially faces - the overall effect afforded by this art style does an excellent job of illustrating many of the internal conflicts and emotional upheavals women experience through the course of our lives. Since creating and working with my [[tarot:zodiac]], I like to pull The Chariot from a new deck to ascertain its imagery and meaning(s), as this is my primary zodiac card. This deck did not disappoint - my own intuitive sense of the card was spot on with the description provided in the accompanying book. There's quite a bit of depth to the illustrations in this deck, and I suspect it will take some practice on my part to become more familiar with its messages. ===== Production Quality ===== I'm disappointed with the quality of the cards, especially given the detail of the artwork. Unfortunately, this deck is printed using a low-resolution halftone method which is very obvious in scans and photos of the cards. A good quality deck should use high-resolution printing, to preserve the fidelity of the images. It doesn't make the deck unusable, nor is the image quality distracting, but it is disappointing. The cardstock itself is pretty flimsy and probably won't hold up to heavy use. As with the majority of my decks, I sleeved this one immediately, and will be making a box for it. The book is //stellar//. The artist also wrote the accompanying book, and she provides detailed descriptions of the imagery, as well as interpretation, divinatory meanings, and a short word list summarizing both the positive (upright) and negative (reversed) themes of each card. The introduction is solid, and includes several interesting spreads. Overall, I'm really happy with this deck. I'd love a better quality rendition, but even with the quality issues, it's worth the money. {{section>tarot:decks:dreamkeepers#card_gallery}}
