Book of Shadows Tarot

Deck Notes

This is a two-deck kit. The As Above deck is meant to focus on the spiritual and esoteric, while the So Below deck is themed to the daily mundane and our practical reality. It's a good concept, but the execution on this deck really misses the mark. There are too many artists involved, which negatively impacts the artistic coherency of both decks. The As Above deck is very global in its representation of a card's concepts, depicting deities from all over the world. The So Below deck is very cartoonish, with a style similar to the Wheel of the Year Tarotplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigWheel of the Year Tarot

Deck Notes

I got this deck for free from a user on /r/tarot, and that's a good thing, because this deck is lame as hell. The artwork is ridiculously cartoony - if you're into comic aesthetic, you might like this deck. For me, it's staying on the shelf until I find it a new home.
.

The book is fairly comprehensive, with full-color illustrations and callouts. There are a number of spreads provided, including those that make use of both decks. The As Above deck is given much more attention, with a full page description of each card (along with the card image). The So Below deck includes shorter descriptions, fitting two major arcana cards or three minor cards per page.

Production Quality

Unlike most Lo Scarabeo decks I've used, this one does come with a solid book, but it's not very well-made. The print and paper quality are subpar compared to other full-color books (like those bundled with some Llewellyn decks). The cards are 4.75 x 2.75“ with edge-to-edge printing. The print quality is acceptable but not flawless. For the price, I would prefer better printing. Deck Notes

After two bad decks, I figured I was probably done buying Lo Scarabeo imprints. Shows how much I know! I stumbled across this deck after finding my interest in Celtic mythology and imagery reinvigorated, in part since AncestryDNA's 2020 update revealed I have more Celtic stock in me than I'd previously believed.
is a much higher-quality deck by comparison.

I ended up returning this one. I can't get past the incongruous and cartoony artwork.
