I bought this deck to accompany Ann Moura's book, Green Witchcraft. The book is well-written, and I appreciate Ann's angle on witchcraft, since her own witchcraft philosophy is built on a lineage of folk witches, along with wiccanplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigWicca

I'm not a practicing Wiccan myself. There are elements of Wiccan doctrine that do not align with my philosophical views, at least as far as Wicca is a defined religious orthodoxy created primarly by Gerald A. Gardner. Gardnerian Wicca is essentially a contrived set of beliefs informed by Jewish Kabbalah, some Christian mysticism, and a healthy dose of creativity.
influences.

This deck follows much of the imagery in the traditional RWSplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigSmith-Waite Centennial Tarot

Deck Notes

Pamela Colman-Smith's artwork has become the de facto standard for Tarot symbolism, mostly because her deck was published at the height of esotericism's popularity at the end of the 19th century. Her artwork is informed by the writings of Arthur Edward Waite, whose perspective on the Tarot was heavily influenced by the Kabbalah mysticism of the era.
, but it does deviate in ways that make the deck's overall mood more positive and oriented toward nature-based magic.

My biggest complaint about this deck is the people. As noted in my review of the Mystic Faerie Tarotplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigMystic Faerie Tarot

I picked up this deck on Amazon when I was looking for a deck with art nouveau-style artwork. The Mystic Faerie Tarot isn't very nouveau at all. Its styling is more like illustrations in a book of fairy tales. The imagery is pretty easy to decode without the book or even an existing background in the RWS card meanings. Each of the four suits is a story, and the book that's included with Llewellyn's more expensive offering is complete with the story narrative, as well as the …
deck, I have a high bar for illustrations of people, and the faces and overall appearance of the people in this deck's illustrations just don't do it for me. I really wish the illustrations were of a higher caliber, because the overall symbolism of the deck is very easy to read intuitively.

This deck comes with a large book with in-depth card descriptions and notes. Moura's writing style is easy to read and understand.

Production Quality

Like all Llewellyn decks, this deck's cardstock is pretty thin. I definitely recommend sleeving this deck if you intend on using it regularly. The book and deck are packaged in a sturdy box with a magnetic closure - I like these boxes, since I can reuse them for storage elsewhere in my home.
